Koster Oil Painting
- A small original oil painting on board, depicting a seascape with a silhouette of a man fishing.
By acclaimed Dutch artist Antonius ‘Toon’ Koster (1913 - 1989) He attended The Art Academy in Rotterdam & soon became a painter, printmaker, industrial artist, enamelist & muralist.
Koster was renowned for his use of dark often gloomy colours in his paintings, with coarse brush strokes creating a charged atmosphere. Oftentimes with a single highlighted portion just like the one on offer here.
He was once asked "Which movement do you belong to?"
To which he replied "There is no movement, & everything repeats itself" allowing his deeply hidden mischievous side to poke out, albeit temporarily.
Signed to the lower left corner by the artist.
Condition : Used,art loose requires reattaching to frame, art and frame in good condition.
