Portrait of Hendrik Constantijn Cras (1739-1820)
Hendrik Constantijn Cras (4 January 1739, Leiden - 5 April 1820, Amsterdam) was a prominent jurist who studied law in Leiden. His training enabled him to teach in various legal fields at the Athenaeum Illustre in Amsterdam for more than four decades. He published various works on the principles of equality and liberty. In 1798 he became a member of the commission responsible for drafting the laws of his country. Print, ca. 1800. Signed in plate, under the oval: "A. de Lelie, pinxt., L. A. ClaeSsens Sculpt."; below, in the centre: "H. C. le Amsterdam by C. S. Roos".
