Signed in the lower left-hand corner: "A. Miguel Nieto", after Diego Velázquez.
Anselmo Miguel Nieto trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Valladolid and at the San Fernando Royal Academy of Fine Arts. He enjoyed study and training scholarships in Rome and Paris. He settled permanently in Madrid in 1906, receiving numerous national and international awards, taking part in the Fine Arts Exhibitions of Buenos Aires (1910) and Munich (1912) and being awarded a gold medal in both. In 1922 he went to Argentina with his friend Julio Romero de Torres, returning in 1937, where he stayed for nine years. On his return to Spain in 1946, in 1952 he was appointed a member of the San Fernando Academy.
Miguel Nieto's work is represented in the Museums of Fine Arts in Pontevedra and Oviedo, the National Theatre Museum in Almagro and the Academy of San Fernando, as well as in other important national and foreign private collections.
