Fine Art Nouveau fan, France ca. 1890
Modernist fan painted by the artist Louise Van, Paris, circa 1890. It presents a delicate support where paper and textile lace are intertwined in delicate harmony.
Her painting shows a young woman with her hair and flowing dress in the wind, carrying a basket of flowers. To her right, another woman contemplates the first one in the company of a child who is playing with a border of flowers. The lace, made with the needlepoint technique, shows vegetal motifs in white, while it decorates part of the support and the whole country around it. The sobriety of the reverse side of the fan reveals the reaization of its structure.
