ANTIQUE ITALIAN BRITISH FRENCH ETCHINGS ON PAPER
A set of three antique etchings on papers depicting different countries' landscape and architectural views. The first: Domenico Amici (Italian, 1808-1908) etching, Tempio di Vesta (Temple of Vesta), titled in Italian lower to the center; signed in the plate by the artist, lower left; dated, 1834, lower right. The second: After William Henry Bartlett (British, 1809-1854) etching, The Great Khan at Damascus, titled in English and French, lower to the center; printed by Fisher and Son and Co., London and Paris, stamped under the title. The Third: Joseph de Guignes (French, 1721-1800) etching, Vue du Lac Sy-hou, depicting a Chinese landscape; titled in French, lower to the center; signed in the plate by the artist, lower left; Guignes, a French sinologist and lexicographer lived in China for 17 years and was attached as interpreter to the Dutch embassy to Beijing. His atlas, Voyages a Peking, recounts his experiences in China with etchings printed after sketches that he made on the spot.
