ANTIQUE RUSSIAN 19TH C OIL PAINTING BY RIABUSHKIN
Andrei Petrovich Riabushkin, Russian, 1861 to 1904, an oil on canvas painting A Gift for the Czar Peter the Great, depicting an elephant walking through the streets of an ancient Russian town and being observed by crowds of people. Signed by the artist on the lower right. Dated circa the late 19th century. Provenance: Trinity International Auctions and Appraisals LLC, INTERNATIONAL FINE ART AUCTION, 06.09.2018, Lot 27. Andrei Petrovich Ryabushkin was a Russian painter. His major works were devoted to the life of ordinary Russians of the 17th century. He took part in Peredvizhniki exhibitions in 1890, 1892 and 1894 but later broke with the movement. 110 paintings by the artist are exhibited in the State Russian Museum, the Tretyakov Gallery, the All-Russian Museum of A.
