RUSSIAN PAPIER MACHE EGG W PARASKEVA FRIDAY ICON
A Russian Orthodox lacquered papier mache Easter egg. The exterior is adorned with an icon image of St. Paraskeva Friday portrayed being crowned by an angel. Paraskeva Friday is an image based on a personification of Friday as the day of the week and the cult of saints Paraskeva of Iconium, called Friday and Paraskeva of Serbia. Inscribed with a gilded abbreviation, Christ is Risen, on the back. A metal detail in the shape of a flower with a loop on the top. Features a red colored fringed tassel below.
