FRENCH CUBIST OIL PAINTING SIGNED FRANCOISE GILOT
Francoise Gilot, American, French, 1921 to 2023, oil painting on canvas depicting a Cubist still life composition. Signed and dated lower right: F. Gilot 1962. Also signed and dated verso. Framed. Francoise Gilot is a French painter of the Post World War II School. Gilot was an accomplished artist, notably in watercolors and ceramics, and a bestselling memoirist of the book Life with Picasso. At the age of 21 she met Pablo Picasso, and the two embarked on a ten year relationship. Gilot is considered by some to have been his muse, and though her work during this time was influenced by Picassos Cubism, her paintings are characterized by a preference for organic forms over Picassos use of sharp angles.
