A 19th Century Chinese Famille Rose Porcelain Bowl with Provenance. With hand-painted white bats and scrolling flowers on a blue background. The interior of the bowl is painted with turquoise enamel. The shape of the bowl is hexagonal. Underside mark from the Qing Dynasty, 19th Century. Size 1 1/2 X d 2 1/2. Provenance: Collection of Edward Hyers Clayton (1886-1946). American writer and missioner. E.H. Clayton and his wife were missionaries of the American Baptist Foreign Mission Society in charge of Wayland Academy, a missionary school in Hangzhou, China from 1912 to 1942. E.H. Clayton wrote a book Heaven Below based on his living experience in China.
