PAIR OF CHINESE WUCAI PORCELAIN JARS AND LIDS ON EUROPEAN MOUNT
Ming to Qing Dynasty, Ca. 17th Century AD. A pair of Chinese Wucai (five-colored) porcelain vases and jars on European mounts. The vase is decorated with several panels depicting flowers, with a ruyi symbol on each corner of the panels, topped with a scrolling floral band right below the neck. The cover has a similar design. The gilded mounts are in the European style, fitted to support the porcelain vase. It was a particularly common practice of French merchants, known as Marchant Merciers, to add European mounts onto Chinese porcelain to fit the tastes of the European market. Size: 480mm x 260mm; Weight: 10.4kg
