AN ISLAMIC, POSSIBLY FATIMID MARVERED GLASS JUG
Probably North Africa, or Egypt, Ca. 11th - 12th century AD . A glass jug of globular form with a slightly flattened base, the bulbous body tapering into a gently flaring neck with a pronounced, pinched spout, a gracefully curved handle applied to the shoulder and drawn to the rim. The marvered surface is worked in deep burgundy, golden ochre, and dark umber, creating a fluid, feathered pattern of trailing waves, the undulating bands elegantly drawn across the vessel. The glass handle, applied in a contrasting hue, is finely ribbed, adding texture to the otherwise smooth, lustrous surface. Size: 95mm x 80mm; Weight: 85gProvenance: Previous property of a UK based Islamic art professional.
