AN INDIAN MINIATURE PAINTING DEPICITNG A ROMANTIC SCENE WITH KRISHNA AND RADA
Kagra, India, Ca. 19th century AD. A painting in gouache and gold on paper, depicting the divine lovers Krishna and Radha seated in an intimate embrace within a palace courtyard. Krishna, rendered in his characteristic blue complexion, wears an elaborate golden crown and yellow dhoti, his hand gently placed on Radha’s arm as she gazes lovingly at him. Radha, adorned in an intricately patterned pink and green sari, leans into him, her delicate features enhanced by fine brushwork. The couple is framed within an oval cartouche, surrounded by a finely detailed floral border in blue and gold, indicative of the refined style of the Kangra school. The background, painted in rich terracotta hues, complements the lush greenery of the setting.Size: 295mm x 250mm; Weight: 30gProvenance: Previous property of a UK based Islamic art professional.
