India, Ca.19th century AD. A finely painted Mughal miniature of rectangular form, rendered in opaque pigments on paper, depicting a regal nobleman seated on a yellow cushion, dressed in a dark blue robe with embroidered detailing. He extends his hand toward a kneeling supplicant in white, who offers a small dish of what appears to be pearls or precious goods. An attendant in a red turban and white robe stands behind the nobleman. The background shows a lush courtyard with distant greenery and an architectural pavilion adorned with latticework and decorative mouldings.
