AN EGYPTIAN OR SYRIAN MAMLUK MANUSCRIPT - SURA AL A’RAF (7)
Egypt or Syria, Ca. Late 15th century AD. A manuscript of Sura al-A‘raf, Arabic manuscript on paper, comprising 24 folios, each with 9 lines of black thuluth script. Chapter headings are in gold, with catchwords, black diacritical marks, red vocalisation, and gold rosette verse markers. Fine gold interlinear rules run between the lines. The text is laid on later wove paper, ruled in green, red, blue, gold, and black within plain margins. Bound in later dark brown calf with green endpapers. Each folio measures 45 x 31 cm, with a text panel of 29 x 19.5 cm.Size: 460mm x 315mm; Weight: 1.07kgProvenance: Previous property of a UK based Islamic art professional. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
