A FINE OTTOMAN SILK AND METAL-THREAD COVER, OR PROCESSIONAL BANNER
Turkey, Ca. 19th - 20th century AD. A magnificent Ottoman ceremonial textile of rectangular form crafted from green silk, richly embroidered with gilded metal-thread appliqué forming intricate calligraphic inscriptions, floral motifs, and geometric designs. The central circular medallion is surrounded by inscribed cartouches, while the border features a repeating arabesque pattern in gilt thread. The symmetrical arrangement of elements suggests a talismanic function, likely associated with tomb coverings (Pardah) or processional standards used in religious ceremonies.Size: 2900mm x 2370mm; Weight: 14kgProvenance: Previous property of a UK based Islamic art professional.
