PAIR OF MESOPOTAMIAN STONE EYE INLAYS
Ca. 2600 - 2400 BC. A pair of eye inlays, each formed of an almond-shaped sclera set within a dark stone surround. Both are inset with dark stone pupils; one is plain, while the other is incised with radiating lines. Likely intended for insertion into a statue. For similar see: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Object Number: 62.70.84. Size: 23-25mm x 28-32mm; Weight: 19.7g Provenance: Private UK collection; From an old British collection formed in the 1990s. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
