SCYTHIAN IRON CURVED DAGGER WITH BIRD-SHAPED HANDLE
Ca. 500 - 400 BC. An iron dagger with a broad, curved blade tapering to a point, slightly thickened at the spine. The hilt terminates in a sculptural element in the form of a stylised bird’s head, complete with incised eye and open beak, the body curving downward to form the handle. A circular perforation is present just above the hilt.Size: 350mm x 30mm; Weight: 205gProvenance: Private UK collection, acquired on the US art market; Ex. Emily & Walter Mead Collection, Santa Fe, NM., active 196’s - 1990s. (Mead Paper Corporation family). This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
