Sculpture depicting ''Child feeding a goat''
Carrara marble sculpture from the second half of the nineteenth century, of Roman origin, depicting a child feeding a goat.
Work obtained from a single block of marble, of impressive dimensions, which in itself represents an element of value, together with the high executive quality.
We attribute the work to the hand of Giovanni Maria Benzoni (Songavazzo, 28 August 1809 - Rome, 28 April 1873), a skilled sculptor from Bergamo who moved to Rome at a young age.
Given the subject's clothing, we can hypothesize that this may have been a commission from Northern Italy (perhaps from the upper Veneto) entrusted to an author of considerable importance, as well as national fame, such as Giovanni Maria Benzoni.
We can also witness numerous examples of works in which he portrayed infants and youngs, in naturalistic scenes with an almost Arcadian-like taste.
Good conservation conditions; the only drawback lies in the wear of the pedestal, which could have shown a possible signature or inscription.
