The larger house on the right could be moved into right away (although old fashioned) and consists of large living room, dining kitchen, bathroom on the ground floor and 2 double bedrooms and a space for bathroom on the first floor, and unconverted attic. The house on the left has 2 bedrooms on the first floor and a large attic on the 2nd floor.
Importantly both houses are connected to mains sewer, electrics and water!
Roofs and windows and shutters were completely re-done approx 6 years ago.
We have previously used a local Notaire in Parthenay who was not expensive and was very efficient. We have an interpreter available in Parthenay too.
Gourgé is a commune in the Deux-Sèvres department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region in western France. It is located at a 10 km distance from Parthenay
Just 56 minutes to Poitier airport

I have added a sketch of the property layout (ground floor) for convenience.
Our thoughts were to make one larger house, 6 bedrooms, 2 living rooms and 2 kitchens but retain the interconnecting door so that the property could be divided into 2 if required (AirB&B etc)

LOCAL HISTORY AND HERITAGE
Come and discover our village “Gourgé”
It is through a note from Jacques Robin, parish priest of Gourgé in 1873, seduced by its charm and its history that we go to discover it.
Delightfully seated on the summit of a rocky hillock, crowned by a magnificent transitional church (Romanesque and pre-Romanesque), Gourgé is one of the most remarkable villages for its picturesque location from whichever side you arrive. Whether at sunrise or sunset, you are seduced by the beauty of the landscape. You are pleasantly surprised by the harmonious variety of the painting which charms you.
It unfolds majestically before you, its deep valley watered by the Thouet which flows under its old Romanesque bridge, several centuries old
Although less rugged, the south has a real charm for the walker. I love these bare, bare rocks, I love this silent stream in summer, gentle in autumn, fresh in spring, impetuous and roaring in winter.
The south is even more severe, it is a wide hillside whose extreme summit, planted with broom, is topped by a mill. (the broom and the mill have now disappeared).
The north initially shows less roughness, but, for anyone who looks further, the banks of the Thouet reappear with their steep rocks above the fertile fields.
Let's continue with a poem written in 1990 by Roger Brossard, a popular character, loved by Gourgé residents.
Between Vienne and Vendée, Charente and Maine et Loire,
It is a village in Deux Sèvres in the region of Gâtine;
The surrounding towns, Poitiers, Parthenay, Thouars
Place it even better because its noble neighbors
By their notoriety, they are known everywhere.
We can see its beautiful square bell tower from afar.
As we often see across Poitou,
Its round tiled roofs and golden stone
From the Romanesque church, to the twelfth built
Crowning a ridge on the blue horizon.
I'll tell you the name of this big town:
Gorgiacum, then Gorgium, Gorgie, finally Gourgé
In geological times, emerging from the sea
Hercynian granite founded its foundations
And millions of years until the quaternary
Have formed this forever promised land.
Our Picton ancestors saw the Romans pass
All along the path known as St Hilaire.
Its basement revealed authentic witnesses:
Funeral urns that slept underground
Pottery and coins, small antique bronzes,
Broken tiles, stones and mortar, broken glass,
And these headstones bearing the Celtic cross
Or that of Malta after the Templar.
The feudal era saw Gourgé prosperous.
There was its priory and its chaplaincy
And everywhere around people lived off the land.
A commandery also flourished there
Of which we did not keep what could remain.
Even in our countries, the horrors of history
We did not spare him. Gourgé was assigned
Hordes passing through, strangers to the land
Churches and castles ransacked and burned
When it came to religion, we tore each other apart.
We also saw the chouans in other troubled times.
And this great war where more than one would perish
Gourgé like the others paid his price.
Yet another war… it was the occupation
Today is peace, progress contributes
May everyone live with satisfaction.
But above all let us be careful not to forget the past
And the ancient wisdom that the ancients kept
That these days we never have enough.
When you know Gourgé, you always come back to it,
Near the old Romanesque bridge which spans the Thouet,
Miring the bow of its piles in the river
Taking the current to the land of Arrouets;
Today abandoned, out of the way, very quiet
It keeps the past while a new bridge
Let's see it clearly... as long as we pay attention to it.
At the edge of the still water, let's admire upstream
The old stone mill seeming to stand guard
While waiting for his wheel which we will return to him.
And the Thouet valley with its dominant hillsides
Overlooking the river and beautifully located,
You should see their golden tones in the flowering broom.
Whether we are in the valley or on the plateau
On this granite soil where sheep graze.
In the moor or the meadows, the rock often emerges,
As we also see in the land of the Bretons.
There are sunken paths under the cover of trees
Smelling of periwinkle and wild horsetail,
In front of these charming places, can we remain unmoved?
So much serenity reigns under the shade!
It is a country of pure air little known to tourists
Rushing towards the coast, looking for the sun,
But more and more people are looking for accommodation,
In this country town with unparalleled charm,
Discovering the castles visible in the surrounding area:
It’s the Roch aux Enfants, it’s the Chaussée,
This is the castle of Orfeuille beyond Cébron
And then that of Fresne or even Vergnaie.
Dear friends and travelers,
 Take the detour to Gourgé,
Don't wait until you get old,
To regret having missed visiting our village.
