Moussa Aziz Abdayem (Lebanon, Zahle, 1947- Rome 2020)Four etchings on paper 50 X 34.5 cm each folio
Lebanese by origin, he moved to Italy and graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome in 1971. A teacher of Engraving Techniques at numerous Italian academies, in 1974 he founded the ‘M2M’ atelier in Rome, which was also frequented by artists of international renown, including Cagli, Pirandello, Sughi, Twombly, Matta, Masson and Mirò. From the beginning of the 1970s, he participated in various exhibitions in Italy and abroad, particularly in Lebanon and Iraq. Among the various awards and prizes are the Minerva Prize (1972), the Prize of the Antiquities Department of the Municipality of Rome (1971), the Pandosia Prize (Cosenza, 1979), the Art Mogao Caves (China, 2019).In 2022, the municipality of Castelnuovo di Porto (Rome) has commemorated the artist with an anthological exhibition entirely dedicated to him. The four engravings proposed here share characters with angular contours in alienating and metaphysical contexts. All signed and with dedication. One coloured in pastels and watercolours with print run XXXI/XXXV, dedicated to his friend Ali Al-Jabiri (his works in the catalogue) and dated 24 January 1986.
