David Daoud (Lebanon, Beirut, 1970)DescenteOil on canvas Mis: 60 X 30 cm - Daoud and his family left Lebanon in 1978 and moved to Paris, where he received his artistic training as a sculptor and painter. The artist began his career as a sculptor, but soon switched to painting, which became his main form of expression, becoming very well known internationally, having received numerous awards and prizes both in France and abroad.Although his expressionist style is often characterised by an ‘instinctual’ rendering of figures that seem to be tangled up in themselves, in this canvas the body of the figure stretched downwards is turned and the expressionism is entrusted to the dramatic background from which the figure emerges. The reference here seems to be religious, reminiscent of Michelangelo, with the descent of a metaphysical being from a lofty place, albeit as red-hot as the hell. David Daoud's works can be found in several collections, including: the Institute du Monde Arabe in Paris, the Museum of Prehistory in Beirut, the Town Hall of Marines, Vexin (France) and that of Isle-Adam (France).
