Rubens painted the 'Garden of Love' around 1633 and it is now part of the collection of the Prado Museum in Madrid. The work was first listed in 1666, when it was hung in the Royal Palace of Madrid, in the Spanish king's bedroom.
Several contemporary copies of the original composition by Rubens are known, most of which were produced by the master's studio. Some of these copies are currently part of important museum collections.
