Münster Sebastian - Rare Engraving - View of the Bohemian City of Eger - Czech Republic - Sebastian. This very old woodcut is from Sebastian Munster's Cosmographey: ”This is a description of all the lands and for no part of the entire earth”. It was published in Basel in 1592. On a tree of Eger, Bohemia (Cheb-Czech Republic) on the Ohře River, depicting a city with fortifications, churches and castles. The map is a hand-colored woodcut over 400 years old from Sebastian Munster's Cosmographia, one of the most successful and popular books of the 16th century. Sebastian Münster is a German writer, historian, cartographer, cartographer, and cosmographer born in Ingelheim, Germany. Münster completed his studies at the University of Tübingen in 1518 under the guidance of Johannes Stöffler. Münster published two books: an edition of Ptolemy's Geography in 1540, with 48 double-page woodcut maps, and his Cosmographia, published in 1544,This is an original print, with original handcoloring.
