Print - Fregata Magnificens - White-tailed Tropicbird - Flamingo - Ornithology
This wonderful copper engraving "1 Fregata 2 Paill'encul 3 Grandgosier 4 Fiammingo: mingo spiccola Isola d'Aves" originates from "ll Gazzettiere americano contenente un distinto ragguaglio di tutte le parti del Nuovo Mondo della loro situazione, clima, terreno, prodotti, stato antico e moderno, merci..." ("The American Gazetteer containing a distinct account of all parts of the New World their situation, climate, terrain, produce, ancient and modern state, commodities..."), Italian Edition published in Livorno by Marco Coltellini, 1763. A very appealing engraving depicts. The print depicts Frigate bird, paille-en-queue or tropicbird, pelican, flamingo and Aves or Bird Island. Text describes birds of the Caribbean islands. Frigatebird: (perhaps) Fregata magnificens, paille-en-queue or white-tailed tropicbird: Phaeton lepturrus, pelican: (perhaps) Pelecanus occidentalis, and flamingo: Phoenicopteridae ruber ruber (or the Caribbean flamingo). The print has one signature. It is located above the image of the birds - its names in a beautiful decorative frame. The reverse side is blank. This copper engraving is printed on laid paper with wide margins. This is an original print, not a modern reproduction.

The work is in good condition overall. There may be a few minor imperfections or fox or mottled marks to be expected with age. Please review the image carefully for condition and contact us with any questions.
