Albrecht Carl Seutter (1722–1762) – Map of the Meissen and Wurzen Districts (Left Panel) – Large Hand-Colored Copperplate Engraving (1750)
This engraved map represents the left half of a double-panel map depicting the administrative districts (Ämter) of Meissen, Wurzen, and surrounding areas in the Electorate of Saxony. It features fine hand-coloring to delineate territorial divisions and includes an extensive index of place names on the left side, with corresponding settlement symbols shown across the map. Towns, castles, churches, and rivers are clearly marked, along with a decorative legend at the bottom. The map was originally designed to be joined with a right-hand panel showing the full extent of the region.Albrecht Carl Seutter (1722–1762) was a German cartographer and the son of the renowned publisher Matthäus Seutter. After inheriting the family workshop in Augsburg, he continued producing detailed and visually rich maps, often using elaborate color coding and baroque-style ornamentation. His works are part of the legacy of 18th-century German mapmaking, emphasizing both administrative utility and visual appeal.Artist or Maker: Albrecht Carl SeutterDimensions:Approx. 63 cm x 53 cmMedium:Hand-Colored Copperplate EngravingDate:1750Condition Report:This work is in good condition overall.
