Each vignette showcases the composition and hierarchy of representatives and magistrates, with explanatory text elaborating the duties and privileges of each institution. This composition offers valuable insight into the complex federal governance of the Dutch Republic during its Golden Age. The engraving was published in Chatelain's celebrated Atlas Historique.Henri Abraham Chatelain (1684–1743) was a Huguenot pastor and cartographer best known for his monumental Atlas Historique, issued in multiple volumes between 1705 and 1739.
