Antoni Tàpies (1923–2012) – Abstract Lithograph from Derrière Le Miroir No. 180 – Fold-Out Large Lithograph (1969)
This original lithograph by Antoni Tàpies was published as part of Derrière Le Miroir No. 180 in October 1969 by Maeght Éditeur in Paris. The composition exemplifies Tàpies’ signature language—gestural abstraction, layered textures, and elemental materials. A powerful triangular black form emerges against a backdrop of muted washes and spontaneous markings, invoking a tactile sense of matter, emptiness, and introspective tension. Printed on folded paper as part of the deluxe revue format, this piece was one of several lithographs specially created by Tàpies for this issue. Derrière Le Miroir was known for its collaborations with the most important artists of the post-war avant-garde, and Tàpies was among its most celebrated contributors.Antoni Tàpies (1923–2012) was a Catalan painter, printmaker, and theorist, considered one of the most influential European artists of the 20th century. His work combined elements of matter painting, Eastern philosophy, and political symbolism within a uniquely tactile visual vocabulary.Artist or Maker: Antoni TàpiesDimensions: 38 cm × 28 cmMedium: Lithograph on folded paperDate: 1969Condition Report:This work is in good condition overall.
