Civil War Union Artillery 2nd Lt. Frock Coat
This frock coat was displayed for many years with Union 2nd lieutenant Artillery Kepi that is not a part of this lot but is such a great match for display. The 9 button frock coat shows heavy use and wear but has not been overly abused. The thick neck eagle & shield buttons are equally as highly detailed as the kepi. From back of collar to bottom cuff is about 40". The shoulder boards are made on false bullion with curved metal "ribbed" border and bars with fabric interior. Both show age and wear. Left shoulder board has popped 2 of four stitches, however the board lays in place very well. The exterior blue has general wear, stains and age and has some clutters of moth holes, but most are on back of collar and right sleeve elbow so you don't see them from front. Both front parts of armpits have rather crude stitch repairs. The interior has an olive colored semi-quilted lining and shows quite a bit of wear and age, but no maker or size marks have been seen. This is quite an opportunity to have a strong example of an iconic Civil War coat.
