MAPA. BONNE (Rigobert)

CARTES Particulieres des Isles de France, de Boubon et de Rodrigue. [Geneva?]: s.n., [1780].

1 mapa, coloured; 255x350mm. Good condition.

Beautiful 18th century map with the islands of Mauritius, Réunion and Rodrigues in the Indian Ocean. The islands were discovered by the Portuguese Pedro de Mascarenhas who even today gives the name to the archipelago that brings them together. The Portuguese never got to colonize the islands, using them only as a base, having been first occupied by the Dutch and then by the French. The map was designed by Rigobert Bonne, one of the most important cartographers of the 18th century.
