Set of Insurance Letter and Certificate, from the ARRAIOLOS post office, relating to the sending of an insured bundle, dated 18th June 1842. When a postal item was sent insured, the post office would give the Certificate to the sender, as proof of receipt, and would send the Letter along with the insured item, which, after being signed by the recipient, was returned to the sending post office. In over 40 years of searching, only two pairs of certificate/letter were found, like the one shown here. An exceptionally rare item.
