Francesco Totti (Rome, 27 September 1976) is a former Italian footballer, who played as a forward or midfielder. With the Italian national team he became world champion in 2006 and runner-up in Europe in 2000.

Considered one of the best Italian players of all time as well as one of the strongest in the world of his generation, during his competitive career he always played for Roma, a team of which he was captain from 1998[8] to 2017, for a record total of 19 seasons, [9] winning one Scudetto (2000-2001, the third in the Giallorossi's history), two Italian Super Cups (2001 and 2007) and two Italian Cups (2006-2007 and 2007-2008).

Between 1998 and 2006 he was part of the Italian national team, with which he played in two European Championships (Belgium-Netherlands 2000 and Portugal 2004) and two World Championships (South Korea-Japan 2002 and Germany 2006), being included in the ideal team of the European Championship 2000 and the victorious World Cup 2006. Previously, with the youth national teams he had won the European Under-21 Championship in 1996 and the Mediterranean Games in 1997.

With 250 goals in Serie A, he is the player who has scored the most goals with the same team in the Italian top division, of which he is the second best scorer of all time after Silvio Piola; with the Giallorossi he scored 307 goals in total, which is a record in Italy for a club team. He is also the striker with the most appearances in Serie A (619, third player overall behind Gianluigi Buffon and Paolo Maldini), a competition in which he is the only player, together with Maldini, to have taken part in 25 seasons and the only one to have scored in 23 championships, also consecutive. In the Champions League he held the record for the oldest scorer in the history of the competition until 6 November 2023, having scored his last goal at the age of 38 years and 59 days, being surpassed by Pepe at the age of 40 years, 8 months and 12 days. He is ranked 75th in the special ranking of the best footballers of the 20th century published by World Soccer magazine and in March 2004 he was included by Pelé in the FIFA 100, the list of the 125 best living footballers, drawn up on the occasion of the Centenary of FIFA. He was also included four times among the candidates for the Ballon d'Or (2000, 2001, 2003, 2007) reaching the fifth position in 2001. Over the course of his more than twenty-year career he has achieved numerous international awards including the Golden Shoe as the best European scorer, the Golden Foot, the UEFA President's Award and, the first and only Italian footballer, the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Laureus World Sports Awards.

In a 2012 IFFHS survey he was elected "Europe's most popular footballer". At a national level he holds the record for awards as the best Italian footballer AIC. Listed among the greatest "flags" of all time, his latest appearances on national and international fields have been honored with ovations of admiration even from opposing fans, at a global level.
