Roman statuette of Venus. - Roman statuette of Venus. Early 2nd century AD. Height 28,1cm. Light brown terracotta. The goddess of love rising from the ocean and with elaborate hairdress from the period of the emperor Trajan comprising a high three-layered wig and ending behind in a twisted ring-shaped bun. She is holding a large cloth like a background behind her and standing on a high base. At her feet a dolphin. Bun broken and reattached, otherwise intact.
