Roman head of a goddess. - Roman head of a goddess. Middle to Late Period of the Antonine dynasty, 161 - 192 AD. Height 29,2cm and with stand 50,5cm. Fine white marble. Slightly larger than life-size fragment incl. face, forelock and small part of the neck depicts an idealized woman with middle parting looking to the right and wearing a large stephané. On the forehead two hardly visible wisps of hair. Mounted on a fascinating stand made of polished steel in industrial design. Excellent piece of high quality! Broken wedge-shaped on the back, also broken at the stephané and neck, small chippings at nose and chin. Acquired between 1900 and 1930, since that time in the property of the same German familiy.
