A Qajar Tinned Copper Kashkul Beggar's Bowl, 19th Century.
An engraved and tinned copper Qajar period beggar's bowl kashkul with tall flaring ends in the form of stylized dragon heads. The body is richly decorated with fine naqsh (chiseled) engraving throughout, featuring densely scrolling vegetal motifs, animals such as deer and birds, and figural medallions depicting seated figures surrounded by architectural elements. A prominent band of naskh calligraphy encircles the upper half of the vessel, reciting prayers and benedictions. Among the inscriptions, the names of the Prophet Muhammad, his daughter Fatimah, and the twelve Imams are included in blessing.
This kashkul also bears an engraved verse from the Qur'an: Surah Al-A'raf (7:43)
"And We shall remove from their hearts any resentment. Rivers will flow beneath them, and they will say, ‘Praise be to Allah, Who has guided us to this. We would never have been guided had Allah not guided us. The messengers of our Lord certainly came with the truth.’"
