“Kedves Öcsém! Ernő fh. osztálya vissza fog jönni Muraközbe, az én és hiszem a’ Te nagy megelégedésedre is, azért f hó 23-án 24-én várjad őket. Sajnálom szegény atyádat hogy elment, én azt még vissza fogom citalni. Áldjon Isten”.
Csány's task as a royal commissioner was to protect the line of the River Dráva and to keep an eye on the approaching army of Jelačić. Although he could not prevent the outnumbered Croats from crossing the Dráva, his merit in orderly retreating and slowing down the enemy's advance is indisputable.
