BERGER GOTTLOB: (1896-1975) German Nazi SS-Obergruppenfuhrer and Waffen-SS General. One of Himmler´s most trusted war-time lieutenants. Head of the recruiting SS Main offices, Berger, an ardent anti-Semite, is considered the father of the Waffen-SS. He sponsored and protected his friend Oskar Dirlewanger, placing him in command of a unit of convicted criminals, the SS-Sonderkommando-Dirlewanger, responsible of multiple war crimes. Berger was tried and convicted in the trial of Nuremberg Tribunals. ''.
