CHARLOTTE OF WALES: (1796-1817) British Princess, the only child of King George IV and Caroline of Brunswick. A.L.S., Charlotte, one page, 4to, Claremont [House, Surrey], n.d. (1817), to Mr. Campbell. The Princess commences her letter 'Pray get me those sermons you so much recommended by some famous man whose name I forget now' and also requests the new poems by Thomas Moore and Lord Byron, further asking him to enquire as to the price of a complete collection of works. With integral address leaf bearing small remnants of a red wax seal. Autograph letters of Princess Charlotte are scarce as a result of her untimely death at the age of 21. An extensive split to the vertical central fold has resulted in the integral address leaf becoming almost entirely detached, and with a few small areas of paper loss, otherwise about VG
The present letter may have been written to the Scottish poet Thomas Campbell (1777-1844). Thomas Moore (1779-1852) Irish Writer, Poet & Lyricist whose Oriental romance Lalla Rookh, consisting of four narrative poems, was published in 1817. George Gordon Byron (1788-1824) Lord Byron. English Poet, a leading figure of the Romantic movement. His work Manfred: A dramatic poem was published in June 1817.
