COCTEAU JEAN: (1889-1963) French Writer, Playwright and Filmmaker. A very good autograph poem signed `Jean Cocteau´, one page, 4to, n.p., dated 1917 in his hand, in French. Cocteau, in his less than usual untidy writing, entitles his poem `Metamorphoses´, underlined, comprising fourteen verses, and stating in part `Beauté, capable, si votre jeunesse plonge - De s´élargir comme un objet de caoutchouc - Pour, assouplie après ce système de songe - Apparaitre au soleil, intacte, tout a coup´, further saying `Souvent a ces miroirs dangereux se mélange - Votre monstre aux bras courts, aux grands pieds, au long cou - Se mélange t-il bien, il fait un nouvel ange - Qui cette fois s´étire on ne sait plus jusqu´ou´. Folded thin paper, with several areas of paper loss and a tear to the edges and two traces of former affixing to upper and lower right corners, none affecting the written test or signature. F
