BOYER JEAN-PIERRE: (1776-1850) President of Haiti 1818-43 and leader of the Haitian Revolution. The longest reigning revolutionary leader of his time. Rare A.L.S., Boyer, one page, 4to, Port-au-Prince, 31st January 1820, to Edmond Bonnet, in French. The document bears the printed heading ''Republic of Haiti - Jean-Pierre Boyer, President of Haiti''. Boyer, in his capacity as President, authorizes citizen Edmond Bonnet to `..go to Europe for his education.´ With blank integral leaf, bearing an attractive watermark. Small overall minor age wear. G Edmond Bonnet was the son of General Guy Joseph Bonnet (1773-1843). One of the signatories of the act Independence.
