CONSTANT BENJAMIN: (1767-1830) Swiss-French Writer, Political Thinker and Activist. A fervent classical Liberal. He was a protégé and collaborator of Madame de Staël, and his autobiographical Le Cahier Rouge (1807) gives an account of his love for her. A fine A.L.S., `Benjamin Constant´, one page, 4to, Paris, 30th January 1805, to Monsieur Leconte, in French. Constant states `Je prie Monsieur Leconte de vouloir bien me faire savoir si je n´ai pas bientôt quelque chose a recevoir chez lui. Je le salue de tout mon coeur… Faites-moi aussi Monsieur le plaisir de me donner votre nouvelle adresse´ (“I beg Monsieur Leconte to kindly let me know if I do have something to receive from him soon. I salute him with all my heart… Do me also Sir the pleasure of giving me your new address”) With addressee to the verso, bearing two postmarks and remnants of a former seal.
