MASSENET JULES: (1842-1912) French Composer. A.L.S., `Massenet´, one page, 8vo, Paris, 5th June 1912, in French. Massenet sends a letter to a friend reporting on the success of his opera Roma, stating `Votre élan est tres touchant! Oui, a Paris, a l´Opéra, comme a Monte-Carlo, Roma est un gros success… salles bondées… artistes admirables, acclamés…Espérons que, comme dans les grands theatres….´ (“My dear friend, your impulse is very touching! Yes, in Paris, at the Opera, as well as in Monte-Carlo, Roma is a great success.. crowded opera theatres… admirable artists, acclaimed.. Let´s hope, as well as with great theatres which have already had performances, we will also have the beautiful Barcelone!”) VG
Roma (1912) is an opera by Massente in five acts, premiered at the Opera of Monte Carlo on 17th February 1912. It was Massenet´s last opera premiered during his lifetime.
