ROLLAND ROMAIN: (1866-1944) French Dramatist & Novelist, Nobel Prize winner for Literature, 1915. A.L.S., Romain Rolland, one page, 8vo, Villeneuve - Vaud, Villa Olga, 24th January 1937, to Franz Hellens, in French. Rolland thanks his correspondent for forwarding his last novel, and states in part `…il est étrangement calme et tendu. Sous la poésie de la nature qui enveloppe la poudrière, on sent la menace tapie, au fond des cœurs. Et depuis le début on attend la catastrophe. Je vous félicite de votre maitrise..´ (“…it is strangely calm and tense. Beneath the poetry of nature that envelops the powder keg, we feel the threat lurking deep in our hearts.
