MONTGOMERY B. L.: (1887-1976) British Field Marshal of World War II. Small group of one A.L.S. and two T.Ls.S., Montgomery of Alamein, four pages (total), 8vo (1) and 4to, Murren, London, and Chateau de Courance, Milly, Seine-et-Oise, February 1951 - November 1952, all to Paul Loosli, the president of the Gstaad Ski Club and director of tourism in Gstaad, on various printed stationery including that of the London Echelon, Headquarters of the Chairman, Western Europe Commanders-in- Chief. Montgomery writes largely concerning his travel and accommodation arrangements for Switzerland, in part, 'I leave here for Gstaad on Wednesday next 14 Feb. Colonel Bracher will be with me; also my A.D.C. Capt Bond. We will travel from Lauterbrunnen by car and will time the trip so as to reach Gstaad at 12.30' (Murren, 11th February 1951), 'I arrive at Murren on Saturday 26 January and will stay there till 11th February…..I will come on to Gstaad….The Montgomery Cup to be on Sunday 17 February…..I will have one officer with me' (2nd August 1951), 'I would like to come to Gstaad on Monday 9th February and have written to Mr. Reuteler to ask if I can go again to the Chalet Park…..The Montgomery Cup for Ski Jumping is I presume on Sunday 15 February. I hope you are going to have a really good season in Gstaad. We have arranged for the Kandahar to open a branch at Gstaad and to have a “K” representative there during the coming winter season' (8th November 1952). Each of the letters are accompanied by their original envelopes, hand addressed by Montgomery. Together with six associated letters, the majority of them unsigned carbon typed retained copies of Loosli's replies to Montgomery. G to generally VG, 9
