DOWDING HUGH: (1882-1970) British Air Chief Marshal, Commander of RAF Fighter Command during the Battle of Britain. A.L.S., Hugh Dowding, two pages, 8vo, Southborough, Tunbridge Wells, 6th September 1960, to Lord Beaverbrook. Dowding announces 'The noble cheese has arrived and is as excellent as the one which we had at dinner with you', adding that his wife, Muriel, had also received a basket of assorted cheeses from Lady Dunn, further commenting 'I shall be very glad when this fashion-show of Muriel's is over; she is working much too hard over it and it is not the sort of thing in which I can do much to help' and remarking 'Next week won't make things any easier either, what with Battle of Britain celebrations & an International Spiritualist Federation Jamboree, but after the end of the month she ought to be able to get a good rest' as well as stating 'I have been reading your book, Politicians & the War and I am finding it very interesting. I am very glad that I did not have to be a politician!'. Two file holes to the left edge, not affecting the text or signature, VG
