CHURCHILL CLEMENTINE S.: (1885-1977) Wife of British Prime Minister Winston S. Churchill from 1908-65. A.L.S., Clementine S. Churchill, two pages, 8vo, Whitehall, 19th February 1953, to Peter Geoffrey Oates, on the printed stationery of 10 Downing Street. Churchill announces 'I find after all the numbers to-day are rather awkward' and continues to ask if Oates and his wife would come to lunch on Thursday 26th at 1.30pm instead, further enquiring if their child is better and concluding 'We look forward much to seeing you both'. Accompanied by the original envelope signed by Churchill with her initials ('CSC') to the lower left corner. VG
Peter Geoffrey Oates (1919-2007) British civil servant who worked in the Prime Minister's office at 10 Downing Street from 1951, firstly as private secretary to Attlee, and later to Winston S. Churchill.
