HENRI II: (1519-1559) King of France 1547-49. Son of François I. L.S., Henry, as King of France, a good signature example, one page, 4to, Sancerre, 29th October 1548, to Seigneur de Sedan, in old French. The King informs his correspondent that he has received his letter but do not respond in writing, and asks him to visit him in order to respond in person. Countersigned by Jacques Bochetel. Professionally double matted in beige and geen, framed in gilt wood and glazed to an overall of 13 x 14. With a large water stain, the text and signatures remaining easily legibles. G £800-1200 Robert IV de La Marck (1512-1556) Seigneur of Sedan, Marshal of France and of Bouillon. Robert IV died poisoned by order of Holy Roman Emperor Charles V. Jacques Bochetel, French Diplomat and Secretary of King Henri II. Son of Guillaume Bochetel, also special envoy and Diplomat under Louis XII. Henry II died untimely in a jousting tournament held to celebrate the peace at the conclusion of the 8th Italian war as a result of the infected wound inflicted by Gabriel de Montgomery, Captain of his Scottish Guard.
