CHARLES IX: (1550-1574) King of France 1560-74. He ascended the throne at the very early age of ten years upon the death of his brother Francis II who died at the early age of sixteen. From 1560 to 1563 his mother Catherine de´ Medici held the regency of France. Charles IX died at the age of 23. Very rare and fine D.S., Charles, one page, 16 x 11 vellum, Chartres, 8th August 1562, to Pierre de la Vieuville, replacing Sieur d´Andelot, in old French. The document being a letter of provision issued by the chamber of the King. The letter refers to Sieur Andelot, also known as François de Coligny, accused of crime of lese Majesty, stating `..who is one of those having raised arms against the authority of His Majesty..´ Countersigned by Florimond Robertet. Signatures and text remain boldly written in very fine condition. Overall, minor age wear, otherwise VG £600-900 Pierre de la Vieuville further became Governor of Reims. François d'Andelot de Coligny (1521-1569) One of the most important leaders of the Huguenots. Florimond III Robertet d'Alluye (1540-1569) Grand Chamberlain of France, Secretary of State and Minister of Finance.
