SWETCHINE SOPHIE: (1782-1857) Russian mystic, famous for her salon in Paris which was considered remarkable for its high levels of courtesy and intellect. A.L.S., S de Swetchine, one page, 8vo, n.p. (Paris?), n.d. ('Lundi'; c.1850), to a gentleman, in French. Swetchine seeks an audience, remarking 'une autre que moi, avec moi, vous temireierait de votre indulgence' (Translation: 'another than me, with me, would temper you of your indulgence'). With blank integral leaf. Some light staining, predominantly at the foot of the page, only very slightly affecting the text and signature. About VG
