FRENCH REVOLUTION: A good selection of five letters, comprising CAMBACERES JEAN-JACQUES REGIS DE (1753-1824) French Noble, Duke of Parma. Lawyer and Statesman during the French Revolution and French Empire. Co-Author of the Napoleonic code, which still is at the base of the French and many other countries civil law. L.S., Cambaceres, one page, 4to, Paris, 6th February 1807, to Gaspard Monge, President of the Senate, in French. Cambaceres states in part `Je viens, Monsieur le Président, de recevoir l´ordre de faire, au nom de Sa Majesté l´Empereur et Roi, diverses communications au Sénat…´ (Translation: “I have just received Mr. President, the order, in the name of His Majesty the Emperor, to make several communications to the Senate…”; FOUCHÉ JOSEPH (1759-1820) Convention Deputy and Minister of Police. A good D.S., Fouché, two pages, 4to, Paris, 28th April 1800, to the chief of squadron and Commandant of the National Gendarmerie of Cologne, on the Minister of the general Police of the Republic printed stationery, in French. Fouché states in part `Je ne puis qu´applaudir à l´esprit de subordination qui règne dans la division que vous commandez et le gouvernement en apprendra avec satisfaction les heureux résultats. Je vous préviens que j´ai instruit le Ministre de la Justice de la conduit du Commissaire qui a favorisé l´évasion de ces huit individus´ (Translation: “I can only applaud the spirit of subordination which reigns in the division which you command and the government will learn with satisfaction the happy results. I warn you that I have informed the Minister of Justice of the conduct of the Commissioner who favoured the escape of these eight individuals ”; Pierre Jean Georges Cabanis (1757-1808) French Physiologist and Philosopher. Cabanis was an enthusiastic about the French revolution, becoming a member of the Senate. The dissolution of the Directory was the result of a motion which he made to that effect. He remained hostile to the policy of Napoleon Bonaparte and rejected every offer of a place under his government.
