MARIE JOSEPHINE OF SAVOY: (1753-1810) Princess of France and Countess of Provence. Marie Josephine was married to future King of France Louis XVIII, although she never held the title of Queen, she passed away, while in exile in England, before her husband ascended to the throne in 1814. A good A.L.S., Marie Josephine Louise, one page, 8vo, mourning paper, n.p., [September 1785], to the Duke of Penthievre, in French. Marie Josephine responds to his correspondent´s condolences after the death of her mother the Queen of Sardinia. Marie Josephine states in part `.. all you honestly say, in this cruel time I am living, proves the honesty of your soul, and I am very sensible to it..´ With blank address leaf, bearing a black wax seal showing her coat of arms, in very fine condition. Paper with a D&C Blauw watermark. Very small area of paper loss to the address leaf as a result of the opening of the letter. VG Louis Jean Marie de Bourbon (1725-1793) Duke of Penthievre. Grandson of King Louis XIV of France and his mistress Madame de Montespan. Maria Antonia Ferdinanda of Spain (1729-1785) Queen consort of Sardinia as spouse of Victor Amadeus III of Sardinia. She was the youngest daughter of Philip V of Spain and Elisabeth Farnese, and was the mother of the last three Kings of Sardinia.
